We've All Been There

Ramen Noodles-We've All Been There, 6 x 6 in oil on  panel. c 2014 Marian Dioguardi
We've all been there . Well, maybe not all but many of us relied on  ramen noodles during times of thin wallets and long working and studying hours. These days I'm more likely to make my soups from scratch but that doesn't change my feelings of gratitude for these ubiquitous humble noodles in beautiful packages. To celebrate the ramen noodle, a series of six paintings is planned ( this is the second).

Technically Ramen is a Japanese noodle soup but here in the US, ramen has become synonymous with Chinese, Thai or Japanese  instant noodle soup.

These little packages, as easy as they are to cook (just add boiling water!), are difficult to paint. Crinkly wrinkled shiny surfaces, print, details, shadowing and lighting make painting them a test of painting skills. Where will this series lead? Who knows? But following one's artistic intuition and obsession usually leads to interesting spaces and places..
