Art In The Villa

Here is Location #24, Newton Open Studios, Art In The Villa. where the art is set up in this home environment. Why? Because our art was meant to be lived with at home. On the far left you can see Sidney Hutter's amazing glass sculpture, Solid Glass Vase Form. This is an amazing piece; looking clear at eye level but as you walk up to it and around it the deep reds and subtle yellow /orange glows appear as if by magic. Perhaps it is. Sidney's sculptures are the crown jewel of the home. But wait! then there are the collaboration pieces of Sidney's where John Borchard has contributed lighting design! Oh my.

Moving along to the left is a grouping of  Tonalist and Naturalistic New England landscapes by Will Kirkpatrick. Will's work is done in a traditional manner reflecting his respect for art history and fine tuned skills.
Art fit for a manor home, country home...any home.

And then there is my work, more contemporary, a little "off tradition" and no frames. The painting and compositions wrap into the sides with some surprises. I will be debuting my new "Flaming Geraniums", a back-lit wild celebration of the humble geranium. Why is it flaming? Those sunlit reds, of course. That painting took me nearly two years to paint. there were the hour and a half that I spent looking at the flowers with sketches and notations. 21 months of looking at my sketches and notes, thinking how to compose it, tackle the painting challenges and 6 weeks of painting, changes scraping out and getting it to the way I want to show it.

And then there is Dr. Ed, my painting buddy of 17 years. He is now 92 and the evolution of his paintings into dream like soft pastels landscapes mirrors his mood and memories.

So we all hope that you can come on by and enjoy the day, the gardens and the art.
