This is one painting from a series of four paintings called "A Change in Circumstance" starring my favorite cup. I rescued this cup from a consignment shop in Saugerties NY back in 2001. It's a dismal grey/yellow/ green cup ( a cup only an artist would love) but when this cup is lit and shown with a color saucer, the cup becomes something glorious and beautiful by reflecting the colors around it. It's my favorite cup and I have not tired of painting the transition from the dismal to the extrordinary.

I understand why you love this cup. Nothing exists in a vaccuum; everything has a color and a shape. With a saucer and a background this cup can light up the world. The possibilites as to how it can do so are endless....
